A new law in New York City has made it illegal for a married woman to marry without an attorney.
It comes after the Supreme Court ruled in May that same-sex couples can be legally married.
“It’s a new way for people to get into the marriage business without the burden of having to get a lawyer,” said Sarah Lee, an attorney and founder of the blog Marriage Is For Everyone.
The law was passed in Newyork in 2017 and was aimed at helping couples find spouses who want to live together.
It also applies to people who have lived together for five years.
New York’s law is the first of its kind in the US, and is similar to the one in Texas, which has been struck down by the Supreme Court.
Under the law, anyone who wants to marry can do so without a valid marriage license, which must be signed by a judge.
It can also be done through an adoption agency or through a court order.
But not everyone is happy about the new law.
It’s not a huge step to make a woman who has been married for years the property of her new husband and she needs to have a lawyer, Linda Luecke, a partner at the law firm of Lue, Davenport, said.
I think it’s a big step in the wrong direction, she said.
For Lue, the new laws are a step backwards.
“We’ve got to get our marriage license through an agency,” she said, adding that the state has also introduced rules to clarify how to obtain a marriage license.
In addition to the New York law, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Vermont and Washington have all introduced laws to ban same-year marriage.
